Zumba Night with MP Melissa Lantsman!<\/p>\n

On October 14, 2025, we warmly welcomed MP Melissa Lantsman, Member of Parliament for Thornhill and Deputy Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada, who joined our lively Zumba session!<\/p>\n

Every Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. until March 30, 2026, our Zumba program is proudly funded through the New Horizons for Seniors Program, which MP Lantsman graciously endorsed.<\/p>\n

We are deeply grateful for her continued support and for championing programs that promote seniors\u2019 wellness, fitness, and community engagement.<\/p>\n

Project Launching \u2013 New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP)<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) is proud to launch the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP) project entitled \u201cPromoting Senior Wellness through Gardening and Exercising.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

This $16,134.00 grant funded the planting of assorted vegetables in the Seniors\u2019 Community Garden and raised garden beds, as well as a variety of flowers in the Friendship Parkette and around the Patricia Kemp Community Centre (PKCC). It also supports leisurely activities such as Zumba, Line Dancing, Cultural\u00a0 and Arnis Martial Arts.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project runs from March 31, 2025, to March 30, 2026<\/strong>. Thanks to NHSP funding, FCAV is able to offer these programs FREE of charge<\/strong> to its members and the broader community.<\/p>\n

FCAV Receives $16,134 Grant to Promote Senior Wellness!<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) is proud to be awarded funding from the New Horizons for Seniors Program<\/strong> in support of our initiative, \u201cPromoting Senior Wellness through Gardening and Exercising.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

This program supports seniors in Vaughan by encouraging social engagement, mental wellness, and physical activity through leisurely activities and vegetable gardening near the Philippine Canadian Friendship Parkette:<\/p>\n

    Project Launching – Seniors Community Grant (SCG)<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n

    MPP Laura Smith officially launched the SCG for the Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) entitled: Happy, Healthy and Active Seniors. The grant amounted to $23,660 paid for 2 park benches, assorted veggies & various flowers planted in the seniors\u2019 community garden, raised garden beds, in the Friendship Parkette and around Patricia Kemp Community Centre (PKCC). It also paid for some technology stuff like speaker, mic, Wi-Fi-extender and projector screen, as well as leisurely activities like Zumba, Line Dancing, Folk Dancing, Cultural dancing and Arnis Martial arts. The project started on July 3, 2023 \u2013 March 25, 2024. Because of the SCG funding, FCAV is able to offer FREE Zumba, Line Dancing, Arnis, Cultural & Folk Dancing to its members and the the community at large. We would like to thank MPP Smith for giving us SCG grant!<\/div>\n

    NHSP 2022 Launch<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The New Horizon for Seniors Program for 2022 was launched on May 22, 2022.\u00a0 The grant will provide Zumba, Line Dancing and Arnis Martial Arts lessons for the Seniors to begin Fall 2022.\u00a0 The grant also includes funds for the development of the vegetable and flower gardens at the Filipino Canadian Friendship Parkette.<\/p>\n

    Joining the celebrations were FCAV Board Members, family and friends, and include MPP-Hopeful Laura Smith and Regional \/ Local Councillor Gino Rosatti, who cut the ribbon to formally announce the opening of the garden.<\/p>\n

    Seniors Community Grant (SCG) 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan was awarded a grant of $15,000 from the Seniors Community Grant Program \u2013 Stream 1 Local Initiative. Our goal is to increase and improve the social participation and inclusion of seniors in our community by offering different programs such as basic computer training, ballroom, and yoga. However, because of COVID-19 restrictions and lockdown, ballroom and yoga were substituted with Arnis Martial Arts. Both Computer Class and Arnis Martial Arts benefited seniors with their mental health and physical health. Often seniors are isolated in their homes and may not be getting the physical activity and social interaction that they need. Since the implementation of Quarantine and Lockdown, our seniors were stuck at home and had very little social interaction with members of the community. Through the Seniors Community Grant, the FCAV seniors participated these activities such as Basic Computer Training and Arnis Martial arts thus engaging them in active living and prolonging their life.<\/p>\n

    New Horizon Grant for Seniors 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The aim of our project is to support our seniors in Vaughan by promoting socialization, mental health and physical health through gardening the area near the Philippine Canadian Friendship Parkette sign as well as, through line dancing and Zumba classes.<\/p>\n

    It has been shown through many studies that horticulture which includes activities like gardening can improve the quality of life for seniors. In fact, a study has shown that it can reduce pain, lessen stress and lower the need for medication. Not only do we want to target improving mental health for our seniors, we also want to improve their physical health through activities like line dancing and Zumba which gets them moving in a fun way. New Horizons for Seniors Grant<\/p>\n

    Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program grant, the FCAV seniors can participate in activities such as line dancing and Zumba thus engaging in active living and prolonging their life. We will also be using a portion of the New Horizons for Seniors Program grant to renovate and repair the gym, in order to provide a safer space to our seniors.<\/p>\n

     <\/p>\n

    New Horizon Grant for Seniors 2019<\/a><\/p>\n

    Participants of the basic computer training held their graduation at Patricia Kemp Community Center on Sep. 7, 2019 The training was funded by the New Horizons for Seniors Program (NHSP). Regional Councillor Gino Rosati of the City of Vaughan awarded the certificates to the graduates. Some of the participants were not able to attend the ceremony. The instructor was Sonny Martinez (CPA, CGA).The assistant was Attila, Apps Eng. The Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan, headed by Erlinda Insigne, pres, applied for the funding.<\/p>\n

    New Horizons for Seniors Grant<\/a><\/p>\n

    Through the New Horizons for Seniors Program grant, the FCAV seniors are able to participate in activities such as tai-chi, line dancing and karaoke thus engaging in active living and prolonging their life.<\/p>\n

    Ontario Trillium Foundation Grant<\/a><\/p>\n

    With the assistance of this grant, the Patricia Kemp Community Centre will be able to complete much-needed renovations that are important to the function of the centre. The funds will go to mechanical systems upgrade which includes air-conditioning, replacing old lead pipes, improving accessibility and emergency exits, and improving the kitchen area.<\/p>\n

    Accessibility Grant<\/a><\/p>\n

    The grant will be used to install a handicap access and an elevator so that the persons with disabilities will be able to avail the activities that FCAV offers including karaoke singing, tai-chi, line dancing and more.<\/p>\n
