                                     Patricia Kemp Community Centre (PKCC)

The City of Vaughan has given the Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan (FCAV) a chance to have a community centre at Patricia Kemp Community Centre (PKCC) located at 7894 Dufferin Street, Vaughan, Ontario, Canada, L4K 1R6.

One of the conditions of the 20 year lease is for the Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan to raise the amount of $200,000 by October 31, 2014. This amount will be used to renovate, to expand and to beautify PKCC.

To date, we already have the amount of $65,000 and expect the amount to increase to $75,000 with pledges by end of March.  We also have a commitment from concerned benefactors amounting to $40,000.  However, we are in need of $85,000 more. It would be greatly appreciated if your group, association or business could commit in the amount of $5,000 as a sponsor, hosting a benefit dance or concert, selling raffle tickets, buying tickets for the gala night or simply donate to help us reach our goal.

In return, Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan will:

  • Inscribe your name or your association on the mural;
  • Issue a tax deductible receipts;
  • Recognize the benefactors, patrons, sponsors and supporters;
  • Give preference to use the community centre.

Should you choose to donate, a pledge form is available with various amounts. Please encircle the amount of your choice and send to us a cheque payable to Filipino Canadian Association of Vaughan.

The Civic Hero Award for Ward 5 was presented to Erlinda Insigne by Vaughan Council on Feb. 4. She was recognized for her community leadership, volunteerism and active involvement in the Filipino community and the Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan.

“Erlinda Insigne has made outstanding contributions in support of the Filipino community in Vaughan through her passionate work as a volunteer and mentor,” said Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua. “Her tireless dedication to enrich civic life for others has touched many residents and inspired important partnerships, including a Friendship Agreement formed in 1997 between the City of Vaughan and Baguio City, Philippines.”

Mrs. Insigne is the founding director of the Filipino-Canadian Association of Vaughan, which was created to provide assistance to Filipino-Canadians in need. The association also promotes community spirit among Filipinos and encourages participation in civic and social events. Mrs. Insigne organizes various community fundraisers and initiates partnerships with schools, community groups and other organizations.

She is the recipient of the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee and Golden Jubilee commemorative medals for her work with the association in support of Filipino culture and values within the Filipino-Canadian community in Thornhill.

“Mrs. Insigne’s involvement in the Filipino community in Vaughan and her efforts to preserve Filipino culture and beliefs are an excellent example of what it means to be a civic hero,” said Ward 5 Councillor Alan Shefman. “Mrs. Insigne’s generosity and her commitment to helping others are effecting positive change in the community.”

The Civic Hero Award is presented annually to one resident from each of Vaughan’s five wards. The awards recognize outstanding achievement and individual contributions to the community.
